slow, beautiful music; the chandelier's soft glow
elegant long dresses that glimmer and flow
men in tall hats, coat tails, and sleek pants
ask ladies so sweetly if they'd like to dance
her eyes looking down at her hands in her lap
she is startled when she feels a light, gentle tap
looking up, she sees a man too good to be true
he smiles and asks "may I have the pleasure to dance with you?"
all night she'd been hiding in the grand room's corner
hoping that the party would go on and no one notice her
"Thank you kind sir, but I can't dance you see"
with a glisten in his eye he replies, "just follow me"
he offers his hand and guides her to the floor
heart pounding, she wonders if she should bolt for the door
the music begins and he brings her in near
her hands begin to shake as she bubbles up with fear
the first step they take she bumps him with her knee
he leans in and whispers, "just relax and let me lead"
she timidly nods her head and closes her eyes
putting all trust in him, her fear shrinking in size
with a strong leading arm, he pulls her closer in
they take off with ease, flawless with every spin
with each step, her fear grew smaller as he led her all around
everything in the room faded, all the chatter, all the sound
soon the music softened, the dance came to an end
she slowly opens her eyes to see her handsome, new-found friend
each one of us has a partner who wants to help us through our dance
let go of the fear you have inside; he will lead you if you give him a chance~
